What QLD Mines Still Need to Do on Critical Controls

Why this course?
Most QLD sites aren't fully there yet.
From the conversations I'm having on site right now, most operations have done some of the CCM work. A refreshed BBRA. A couple of bowties. Maybe a handful of Critical Control Performance Standards in draft.
What's often missing is the joined up picture. The line of sight from Material Unwanted Event, through the bowtie, to the critical control, to the performance standard, to verification, into the SHMS and PHMPs, with Officers genuinely across it.
And 1 June 2026 isn't a soft deadline. It's the compliance date for the amended CMSHA and MQSHA. So the time to get sharp on this is now.
What this workshop does:
This is 90 minutes of practical, hands on content for QLD mining. No regulatory lecture. No generic risk management theory.
We work through:
- Exactly what the amended legislation requires, section by section (s30, s47A, s62, s63), in plain language
- The 5 most common gaps I'm seeing on QLD mines right now — and what "closed" actually looks like
- A realistic path to compliance by 1 June, even if you're starting late
- How to pressure test your current SHMS and PHMPs against the new requirements
- Officer due diligence under s47A — the piece flying under the radar for most senior leaders
You leave with a clear read on where your site stands and what to do next.
What you'll walk out with:
A clear read on the legislation. The amended CMSHA and MQSHA in plain language, with the key sections (s30, s47A, s62, s63) broken down so you know exactly what's required of you, your team, and your Officers.
The 5 gaps to fix before 1 June. The specific areas where most QLD sites are still short, drawn from recent work across underground coal, open cut coal, and metalliferous. What good looks like, and how to close each gap quickly.
A practical readiness check. The CCM Compliance Checklist (PDF) to take back to site — a one page self assessment you can run through with your SSE, SHMS owner, and principal hazard leaders.
Who should be in the room:
This one is built for the people accountable for getting CCM right on QLD mines:
- Site Senior Executives (SSEs) — you're the one carrying the statutory accountability
- GMs, CEOs, Directors, Officers of Corporations — the new s47A test applies directly to you
- Health and Safety Managers, HSE Superintendents — you're running the SHMS and PHMPs
- Principal Hazard Management Plan (PHMP) owners — you're embedding the critical controls
- Risk and control owners — you're the ones the verification is happening with
If you're not one of those but you still have skin in the game (auditors, advisors, corporate risk, supervisors who want to be sharp), you're welcome too.
